JJ Watt featured as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year Honoree

When devastation hit his city of Houston in late August, J.J. Watt set out to raise $200,000. He ended up raising more than $37 million in Hurricane Harvey relief, via donations from across the country.

Sports Illustrated Magazine covered JJ Watt as a 2017 Sportsperson of the Year honoree, alongside Astros player José  Altuve .

Bleacher Report covers the JJ Watt Foundation’s hurricane relief efforts

The JJ Watt Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey relief fund topped $20 million in donations Tuesday  after the Houston Texans defensive end initially set a fundraising goal of $200,000.

As of 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, nearly 185,000 different donors had contributed money toward Watt’s adjusted $20 million goal, which was set after the fundraiser reached the $18.5 million benchmark Sunday.

Hurricane Harvey relief fund started by JJ Watt Foundation hits $20 million

The JJ Watt Foundation’s relief fund for Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston has reached $20 million — 100 times more than the NFL star’s original goal.

More than 180,000 donations have been made, mostly for less than $100 each, since Watt started the fund Aug. 28 with a donation of $100,000 and a goal of raising $200,000, according to YouCaring, the company taking the donations.

CNN covers the JJ Watt Foundation’s fundraising efforts for Hurricane Harvey Relief

The JJ Watt Foundation began raising money for Hurricane Harvey victims with the initial goal set at $200,000, but has now reached over $27 million.

Watt has been updating his Twitter profile with news of what the money is buying, including photos of cases of bottled water and diapers. He’s also posted pictures of his teammates distributing it to the victims.
